how did i end up in huntsville for a night? [Jul. 11th, 2008|10:20 pm]
My mom.
she had an online class with one actual in-person meeting.
i'm along for the ride, as well as my notes.

Have a big test on saturday.
been studying for it.

I love the trees here. Its forest everywhere north of Conroe north of Houston. My myspace is fully operational again.

on chicken wings: flats have more meat than drumettes and are therefore better. Drumettes have a lot of gristle and crap you gotta eat around.
We had dinner at a place called Humphrey's. Huntsville is a prison town, but its also a college town.
They played a song there. it goes "you're so gay and you don't even like boys..." who sings that? I need that song. It made me smile.
Also RATM's "no shelter"...that made me smile hard.

Birds, Shiner bocks and RockBand [Jan. 28th, 2008|11:06 pm]
I've been reading a lot about birds. Taking an ornithology class. It got me drawing again. I haven't drawn since august when i took an art class. I did about 40 drawings in august some of which are in the link below. I think i need to retake photos of them. Having a computer in my room with internet that works is waking me up. I've been downloading music again which I haven't done since 2005 when i moved back here. Now that I have winamp again I started drawing to it, because I can't read to music unless its really ambient.
Last night there was a party with Rockband. I handled guitar duties. It was a lot of fun. We couldn't finish "Run to the Hills" though. The drums were just too much for C even on easy.
AIM isn't accepting my old username and password which I haven't used since 2005. My God has it really been that long? I'm gonna have to get everyone's AIM username's again. I remember some but they may have changed and what not.
Here's my artbistro profile. I've lost some weight since that photo was taken.

I used to watch adult swim all the time but since Futurama moved to Comedy Central the nightly 10:00pm ritual for two years detoured towards reading and now internet No new episodes of Metalocalypse until April. Except for the occassional anomaly (like the history channel's special on life after people, or Scrubs) I'm pretty sick of TV. The last 3 movies I saw were kickass. Cloverfield, Juno, and No Country for Old Men.
I also watched Sans Soliel which was a trip.
I haven't written much since I moved back besides class assignments.
Haven't been to Chapa's in a while. Their myspace is now friends only. you'd think they'd want to advertise more so more people would go to their shows. Rumor has it that it's getting turned into a strip club. I choose not to believe it, cuz only one person told me this.
I haven't been there since october i think. Then again they did destroy the apartments I used to live at back in 05. And its going to become a Walgreen's. Even though there's a Walgreen's down the street anyway. Such a waste. There probably just gonna move the old walgreen's to the new location and the old one will become some sort of outlet or taco place or squatters den or rat hole or something.
I'm thinking about going to Roswell during Spring Break. Have any of you been there before?

the fat guy wants to crowd surf [Sep. 18th, 2007|02:55 pm]
The ATari's/ Superzero show last Saturday was pretty intense.
I completely forgot about crowd surfing. It was a constant during the Atari's set. I recommend Superzero from Brownsville to anybody if you like punk rock. Many of their songs are in Spanish which is pretty cool to. Superzero's been around for a long time but I'd never seen them live. Their amazing live.

The music scene in Brownsville. [Sep. 11th, 2007|09:28 pm]
[Current Location |Mike's apartment]
[music |Mike talking]

Yes.Iam alive.

Jesus Christ. I'm at a friend's apartment rightnow and his spacebar doesn't always react to pressure. I'm taking classes towards a biology masters degree and drinking a tallboy of Hurricane's High Gravity. Gravity in this instance means "alcohol". PEople keep asking me if I have a myspace, and I keep telling them I forgot where it was. WEll Travis foundit for me. There's a link to it from here but the e-mail whereI'm supposed to recieve it's messages is probably dead or I haven't checked itin ages. I miss Austin everyday, but I try to make the best of being in Brownsville. Someday's it is hard andI sleep a lot.
Anyway, there's abar here that's pretty cool. It's "Chapa's BAr" and they DO have a myspace page. EVery weekend they showcase local and far away bands (from Canada for example) of the punk, metal, and psychobilly persuasion. It's like Emo's but in Brownsville. Last weekend I saw a psychobilly band from Canada called "The CreepShow". They were pretty amazing and played a damn good cover of the Ramones "Pet CEmetary". Before them was a band called the "FRantic Flintstones". I love a band with a stand-up bass. And both of them had it. As well as amazing haircuts that defied gravity with their gel powers. "The Atari's" are playing on Saturday. Opening for them is a local Brownsville punk band called "Superzero". They've been around since I was in high school and used to get airplay when the South Padre Island radio station played "alternative" music. Now 92.7 plays Latin Pop. Like we don't already have enough of that shit. Anyway there was a death metal band from Austin called "Sarcolyptic" that played at Chapa's about a month ago. "the rejected " opened forthem and they've been around since Iwas in high school apparently. The "Turbo Thunder Lizards" broke up a few years ago and I haven't heard of them since. It's a shame. They were great.
For classic rock and allaround jamming there's alwauys "Joe's Bar and Grill". If you can play an instrument they may let you play. It's mostly an older crowd there. Old bikers and such but the music is always enjoyable and they occassionally play "freebird" and go fucking nuts on it. For a short while their marquee claimed they were "little Austin". Joe's kind of replaced "The Rising Sun"which got bulldozed after all their equipment got stolen. It'sa good place to relax and listend to cover songs or some occassional improvised poetry.
Anyway I think I'm going to head backto the social world. Hope you enjoyed my comments on localmusic. The Latin Jazz Festival is coming in OCtober. I showcasedsomeof my ARt last Sunday but I didn't sell any of it. But I was told that I exposed people to work that was different and a lot of people voted for me so I could win $500 but I didn't. IT was mostly landscapes I did in pen inspired by my trip to RAncho Del Cielo in July. IT's a place owned by the University in the Mountains in Tamaulipas. It was afun time and I expect to show my drawings again at the JAzz festival. Until then Good Night and have a pleasant tomorrow.

awaken awaken awaken [Aug. 30th, 2006|06:24 pm]
[music |Dethklok]

LAst night I dreamt I was covered in scorpions. The big black asian ones.
I managed to get all of them off without being stung.

Then I woke up in Austin(still in the dream). I was still on vacation there and staying with some people I didn't know. This one skinny blonde girl wanted us to leave, so I parked my big orange hippie van over by the Scientology building. It was night and Travis and I were going to a party in hopes of crashing there...

Then I woke up to my phone ringing( woke up for real this time), and realized I was going to start working tomorrow.
I got in my little green car and finished the necessary paperwork.
I had a beer with some friends and now I'm in the library.

Tomorrow is going to be interesting.
First day of teaching.
